Pat, Canvas on the outside? The one I was issued is more like rubber and kind of a rubber mesh weave impring on the outside. They are ok, usually dont last long if you put them to good use!

If you are looking for waterproof stuff to put cloths in just get dry bags, they can be had a sams every once in awhile for a great price!!! Either that or watch the campmor catalogs they have sales on them every no and then. I have enough for 2 people and still have some left over! They aint much more then what you would pay for the same size military 'dry' bags. Well atleast the one I was issued....
