I took my 30-40 Krag elk hunting in 1997. It worked quite well. One shot kill at 150 yards. I loaded a 180 gr. Speer grand slam bullet behind 47 gr. of imr 4831 for 2162 fps. This was in a Ruger #3 carbine. You might have to try and see if they will shoot well out of a military gun, if that is what you have. If you have a military gun and they don't shoot well, try the 200 gr spitzer soft point. As far as the 30-06 i would use the 160 gr grand slam or 180 gr grand slam. Just use your reloading manual and work up the best load.
