I would only take the shot if that deer was a big antlered buck that i had been working my ass off for, and i had a 12 gauge shotgun slug or high powered rifle that packs a punch.
Deerslayer this is the part that gets to me, what is unethical in your book for a doe or a dink buck is ethical for a big buck! Sorry, I have to disagree on that, any shot one thinks is unethical for a doe should be unethical for a big buck! There is no way I would purposely shoot a deer in the hind quarters, a deer can go a very long way with a broken leg. I am not going to say you can not drop a deer in its tracks with a shot in the hindquarters, but I will say that you have been very lucky if the 2 you did shoot in the hindquarters dropped almost immediatly. I will stick with the vitals.... Have you ever wondered why they call them the vitals?
