I'd put the Mossberg 500 and Remington 870 in the same general class . . . along with the Winchester 1300. Any of them are good, functional shotguns. I've had good luck with Mossbergs, but would be just as happy with the Remington if you find a good deal there. The Mossbergs that include two or more barrels are some of the best priced packages on the market. Certainly there are better shotguns out there, but I'd be surprised if you were not pleased with the gun. I've had a 500 for several years with no complaints. Use both rifled barrels and vent ribs for all kids of game.
