I like to use 'other calibers' just to prove that everything does not revolve around the 30-06. Great chambering it may be, but it is not the most versatile. If you read your history you will find out that the 30-06 was designed after the 7X57 and more or less enlarged a bit in all deminsions to suit the designers desires and needs within the DOD in the USA. I'm not saying the '06 is a bad cartridge but most people who sing its praises on versatility use only one or two of the available bullet weights out there. In my opinion it is too large of caliber for shooting varmits and too small of caliber for the nasty stuff.
