RE: book on bowhunting 101
For equipment basics: "Balanced Bowhunting" by Dave Holt (It's getting a little dated, but still very good info) and "Tuning and Silencing Your Compound Shooting System" By Larry Wise.
I guess most of the hunting books I like are a little too rarified for the tastes of the masses. "Bows on the Little Delta", "Hunting the Hard Way", "Fred Bear's Field Notes", "Witchery of Archery"... Even though I like shooting targets with 'em, I'm not very fond of the compound as a hunting bow.
