RE: Caribou hunting a joke
Caribou seem to be different critters depending on the area you hunt. If you hunt the Mulchatna herd in Alaska, the animals are very pressured. Other herds like the Western Arctic are not hunted all that hard, and are not all that wary.
The amazing thing about caribou hunting is the hunt itself. You have never known such a humbling feeling when the airplane drops you off and you know that you MUST take completley care of yourself for the next ten days. Nights are crisps and cold (zero degrees is not uncommon) and the Northern Lights can put on quite a show. The days are usually mild or wet, and the hunting is not all that hard, but the staying alive part is really hard. Add to that the packing of a couple of miles of pieces of caribou after the kill all on your back, and then the grizzlys wanting to claim your prize. Caribou hunting is absolutely amazing!
