TFOX is probably right one the first suggestion.......the smaller diameter gives the new arrows a lower launch angle. Won't look like much to the naked eye but when you transfer that difference to 20 or 30 yards and it shows up noticeably.

This is the reason why many times at 20 yards you can get a fat aluminum shaft to group right with a much smaller diameter shaft even though it might be considerably heavier and slower.
