"I can use the same pin at 15 to 40 yards".

I've heard this statement so many times and it really is misleading to a lot of archers who don't know what this really means.

It does not mean that any bow can shoot one pin, while holding on the "X" throughout that range. This is beyond the laws of physics. It means that the arrow flight is fast enough to allow a lesser amount of gap so that the archer can compensate easier for the yardage differential.

In other words, one pin held on "X" at twenty yards with a 250 fps bow/arrow will drop "Y" inches; whereas, a 300 fps bow/arrow may only drop "Y - 3 inches". Therefore, that archer with the faster arrow flight may not have to aim over the spine on a 40 yard shot, but under the spine.

It's all in how much compensation that you need to adjust. The negative effect can be a lighter arrow which looses some KE faster down range.
