Targetpuncher, there is one common thing that I have seen in each of your post's. You keep refering to "law abiding gun owners." For the sake of this discussion, hypothetical, but terribly possible, we would no longer be "law abiding gun owners!" When guns are banned, gun owners will be criminals!
Can this happen? Yes! It is very possible that the anti's could win enough seats in the House and Senate, to ban guns altogether! Hopefully, we are many years, if ever, away from something this terrible!
This would surely cause another civil war! I think that even the most radical anti gunner knows this! So, what is more likely to happen, is what we are seeing now. The anti's are content to nibble away at our Second Amendment rights, one firearm type at a time.
They are learning to pick weak spots in the gun owners armor. First, they target things like the so-called "assault weapons." (what a joke! What is an assault weapon?)
When they are successful, they will pick on another group of gun owners! In this, they hope to turn gun owner, upon gun owner! When we have been thinned out enough, then they will go for an all-out gun ban!
Their reasoning is, we will give up our guns one at a time, until there will no longer be enough of us "extremists" to put up a fight!
As gun owners, we must not fall for their lies and half-truths, we must stand TOGETHER, and not sacrifice one another!

You also speak of COMPROMISE!
There are three definitions of compromise here:
1. The anti's compromise: We take your guns one at a time until you have NONE!
2. The gun owners compromise: Honor the Second Amendment, use the dozens of existing laws, to prosecute the REAL criminal use of firearms.
3. The fence riders compromise: Give up everyone else's rights to firearms, except for mine! (this is actually be worse than the anti's view of compromise, because it is selling out and sacrificing our fellow citizens, and will eventually give the anti's what they really want! ALL GUNS!!!)

Also, following your line of reasoning, "we should not disobey legal authorities!"
Allow me to remind you that America, was NOT America! We were at the time, a BRITISH COLONY! Therefore, according to your reasoning, they were THE LEGAL AUTHORITIES, and had a LEGAL RIGHT to force their will upon us!
Further, the PATRIOTS were acting illegally, and were therefore, CRIMINALS!
RADICALS!
EXTREMISTS!
Had they used your reasoning, we would still be a British Colony to this day! Thankfully, this was not the case!
To the throne, criminals they may have been! But neither radicals, or extremists they were! They were ordinary people, fighting for what was, and still is right! In forming a new nation, they drafted a CONSTITUTION and a BILL OF RIGHTS, and knowing the evils of man's heart, they added THE SECOND AMENDMENT to protect us from hostile nations, our own government, and from our own selves!
Is this all relevant for today? Yes! I believe it is!!!!

The Second Amendment protects every other right, and freedom that we have as Americans! The original Patriots won our freedom with their blood! Every Veteran, of every war, since then has fought to keep our freedoms!
Can we so easily now, give up the freedoms, that so many before us, have fought so hard to give us?

So in conclusion, to answer the original question of this thread, "How much do I value my rights?"
Read my signature! If there is nothing worth dying for, there is indeed, nothing worth living for either! Figure it out for yourself before you knock on my door to take my guns!
