RE: how much do you value your rights? ¤READ¤
I have no intention of "tucking tail and running" (whatever that means). Your command of the language is wonderful, by the way. Interesting that you now, after all that has gone before, turn to asking about for whom I voted. You've run out of anything substantive to say about the subject which we were discussing, haven't you ?
I stand behind the assertion that you were the first one to throw personal insults. You have acknowledged that you would use violence against a police officer, who came to your door in the line of duty.... the vast majority of rational people would consider that extremist. I merely acknowledged the fact. The shoe fits, and you have CHOSEN to wear it. I am not to blame for that.
The things that I find most disturbing about this entire situation are 1: When I originally posted on this thread... I simply stated what I believed to be true as regards the issue at hand. I didn't decide to turn it into a WAR. That was your doing. (After all, I am just a 'liberal, peace-loving, panty-waste' , right ?) As I stated before, I am always happy to discuss, calmly and with consideration, issues of this sort. Do not, however, expect that I will give up and run away because you decided to make this a problem. Which leads me to 2: The telling point here is that you have taken this quite beyond the pale - as regards a calm, rational, discussion. It appears that you are rather incapable of fielding ANY points of view which do not EXACTLY match yours. You claim (or so it would seem) to be in favor of individual rights and liberties.... just NOT those that happen to differ with your particular view of the world. Very sad, indeed. You remind me of those who, immediately after the tragedy of 9/11.... suggested that to question ANY actions or policies of the Government was unpatriotic. Open discourse (including differing points of view) .... leading to understanding and compromise (oops, there's that dirty word again) - are the very ways and means by which this nation was founded ! It was NOT founded only by those of one particular point of view (on ANY subject). That has always been the strength of this nation... that EVERYONE has the right to express their particular views - and that most decisions that have produced an outcome fairest to all have been the result of discussion and compromise.
I'm not sure that you understand that. I'm not even sure, at this point, that you even truly support the very concept of Democracy..... because that which I have just described (and that which you seem to take such issue with)... is the very essence of it.
Having said all of that, I will say this. I have discussed this matter as fully as I intend to - with those who have NO tolerance for opinions which differ from theirs. I wish you the best of luck.... and I, indeed hope that you will be able to control yourself such that your hatred of everyone different from you does not boil over and poison the remainder of your life.
