My first rifle was a ruger 10/22. I don't know how many squirrels have fallen to it. It is still the most accurate .22 I have. I bought an old marlin 39mountie last winter and had a blast rabbit hunting and I am eager to hunt squirrels this fall. Season here in MO. just opened up but I am terrified of snakes so the tree rats can wait. My wife shoots a .22 browning lever action. She has a little trouble with the grays.
