I to have the 597 in 22 Mag., mine will drive tacks out to 50 yds. My brother and a friend also bought one and they hated them.

The only problem with them that I can find is the clips, they're made out of plastic, I understand that you can now get metal clips.

I bought mine as a low maintenance rifle. I use it squirrel hunting (solid bullets), have killed wild hogs and coyotes with it. I haul it in my trucks and boats, gets a lot of abuse.

Yes I do get an occasional jam and the problem is in the clips. I've worked on the brings inside the clips and no longer have the problem. Hopefully the metal clips are better.
