Default RE: Ruger Redhawk 44 mag

OEH, You have a good one in mind with a Redhawk. You really don't have many choices on Barrel lengths. The Redhawks are available in either a 5 1/2" or 7 1/2"bbl.44 Mag or 45 Colt. The 44 Mag comes either Blued or S/S. The 45Colt is S/S only.Their were a couple guys recently talking on another forum about having their Redhawk's bbl's down to 3.1/2"-4". I personally wouldn't want that short a barrel. It would nice for carrying but other then that it wouldn't be practical in my opinion. The recoil would be much greater especially for follow up shots. The sight radius would be shorten considerably not giving the best sight picture. The loss of velocity would be great.Accuracy wouldn't be near as good as the longer 5 1/2" or 7 1/2"The 5 1/2" would be a good choice.I've left my Redhawk's stock. The only thing I've done is put Pachmayr's and Hogues on them.I can live with the triggers. They could be better but acceptable. I personally think the Redhawks' are the strongest revolvers made today. They will withstand the punishment of full house magnums as a daily diet. You won't go wrong going with any of the Redhawks or the Super Redhawks.
