I currently use leeches with mixed results. My next string silencers will be a series of 5-6 "cusion buttons" (the littly round rings that one would use under a nock set if you use a release)threaded on the string where the leeches would normally be placed.
They are made of the same material and have less of a tendency to fly apart.
