Forgot to mention that I had several "virgin" pieces of gear with me on this hunt....
First off was my gun. The Beretta 391 is everything I've been looking for in a shotgun. I've always wanted an autoloader, and a gun that had scope mounts on the reciever. Those after-market mounts suck if you ask me, and I have alot more confidence now that the scope is screwed securely to the gun. The Rhino choke and Remington Hevi Shot ammo performed like champs.
Next was the Cody Spec 1 slate call. I've used Cody friction calls for several years now, but decided to get one of Bill's true custom calls this year. Coupled with a Pete's Lightning Strike laminated striker, the sweet hen voice within the call was the answer to breaking this stubborn opening day longbeard.
And finally the Bucklick Highback Lounger vest. I wore out my last Bucklick vest last season and had to replace it this year. This model Carried everything neatly and organized and is as comfortable as anything I've ever sat in.
I also put a dandy gash on my thumb with a fairly new Gerber Gator knife as I was cleaning up the spurs from my bird. Ten stiches later and I'm ready to go get one for Dad. I won't be using my beloved slate calls though!
