Ah, Ghostbusters--now I know.

Don't worry about shooting with the t-ring, but gradually build up your confidence. The ring should go on fairly easily (perpendicular to the bend in the thumb's knuckle). Then, once you twist it on 90 degrees, it should not easily pull off the knuckle, but still should be able to rotate on the thumb without too much difficulty.
