RE: Request for 5 Shot
ROCKY GATOR XP
Plywood: 5 points
Steel drum: 3 points
Orange: 4 points
Cutting diameter: 5 points
Accuracy: 5 points
Blades: 3 points
Rearward opening blades: 1 point
Total score: 26 with a blade sharpness rating of A+
Plywood: head fully penetrated without damage.
Steel drum: head full penetrated on side with tip sticking in rear wall, one blade broken off. Half of the cutting surface remained.
Orange: head was partially open when entering the front and fully opened upon exiting. The Rocky Gator is a two blade mechanical head with a unique blade opening system. The blades remain partially open at all times maintaining a 15/16" cutting diameter. Once the head hits the target, two fins just above the cutting surface of the blades grab the target material and are forced closed. When this happens the blades are pushed open and the head reaches the full 2" cutting diameter. I was really pleasantly surprised at how well this head did in the testing. Penetration was excellent, along with blade sharpness. The Gators also proved to be very durable and accurate. While a 2" cutting diameter is fairly wide, the Gators perform in such a way that most bowhunters using modern gear and pushing 55 ft/lbs of kinetic energy should be able to use them to good effect on game. This is an excellent choice for those wanting a tough, great penetrating head with a large cutting diameter.
