RE: Question??
Absolutely!! I only had one call my very first year hunting. It was a push button box call designed to fit under the barrel of the gun. I still have it and use it at times. I got turkeys to respond and I had NO CLUE what I was doing! Just kept pushing the button making yelps.
I would recommend getting a box call and/or something like the Lohman pump action yelper (next on my list of calls to get). These calls require little in the way of practice to become proficient enough with.
Slate calls are the next easiest. However, I have come across some that were tricky to use. I personally don't like them as much but tons of people love em. I still buy em and try them out while hunting but almost always go back to the box and mouth calls.
Next you could get some mouth calls. Most of them sound excellent but they require more practice. Plus, some people have a sensitive gag reflex which can make using mouth calls uncomfortable. You can buy them in sets that include instructional videos which helps if you've never used them before. The best thing about the mouth calls is the fact that you can remain still and hands free while using them. This is why they are preferred by many turkey hunters.
