Default RE: VP'S Turkey Pictures

Thanks Jalvja,, You'll have to teach me how you do that one day,,

Thats my 11 yr old Turkey Slayer their at the top with his Very FIRST turkey, I dont know who cried more, me or him- But man let me tell you I was one Proud Papa!
The week was filled with oppurtunities for us both to fill our tags with some pretty nice Toms. But, let me tell you, Its tough to hunt with a kid that young- Everything has to fall into place for them to take an accurate shot and make a clean kill- I was probably being a little more cautious then normal on the distances and had him paranoid to even move blink much less turn 45 degrees to take a shot. He did shoot at a very nice bird on Tuesday and had a clean miss at about 20 yds, That was one lucky Turkey the Wad missed his head by about a foot and he hauled tail- Travis said- MAN, not again! (thats the 2nd bird missed this year)
Well, the next one wasnt that lucky, we had 3 hens and two jakes come in and I wouldnt let him shoot because it was about 35 yds and I didnt want to push the limit on his little 20ga, the hens started putting at the decoy and kinda spooked when out of nowhere this big Tom gobbles about 100yds away- we could see him on the hill struttin and the Jakes took out after him, they went up the hill and kicked his Butt for about 15 minutes, luckily I was able to coerse them back into our set up and he dropped the first one like a sack of taters, the other bird found out he couldnt out run a full load of Hevishot from my 870. So we got a double!
Travis got to experience a little of everything in Texas, Gobbler Fights Hen fights, struttin, rattlesnakes(Big ones) and whitetails, the whole nine yds, it was a blast!
The hunting was pretty tough thou, it wasnt a typical Texas Rio hunt, the Birds were Henned up big Time so you really had to work for what you got but it all ended well
