On Saturday Morning I got one. We roosted him friday night and I thought he was about 150 yards off the road. Well saturday morning came and I was set up were I thought they were. About 5:10 rolls around and he sounds off and is about 200 yards further up the hill than I thought. Well it was light enough to get seen so I had to do a complete circle and come in behind them. I set up on the ridge they were on and they flew down at about 5:50 and were only 60 yards away but the nasty ol' boss hen took her boys the other way. So after a little crawling I finally got set up. The toms responded to all my calls but werent gonna leave that hen so I attempted to call her in matching her note for note and adding in some extra cutting. bout 6:55 her and three other hens came in with three toms a jake. I took this guy cause he was always in strut at about 25-30 yards. He was about 20 lbs, 3/4" spurs, and 6.5" beard ( beard was smaller than the other birds for some reason, has like burnt orange brittle ends on it , maybe beard rot? I dunno)
Here is me with my first bird
