Why did I give up bow hunting? Because I always missed.
Why did I always miss? Because I always miss judged the distance in the field and because of buck fever.
I practiced alot and I felt I was pretty good at targets of known distances but while hunting, the deer never cooperated with me. They always showed up in the wrong place or the wrong time. As an example, I sat in my tree stand all afternoon and about 1/2 hour before sundown I started to get cold. I hang my bow and start to put on an additionl sweater. Right in the middle of putting on the sweater a big 6 popinter trots by. In a panic mode I whistle to stop the buck and grab my bow and shot bare handed. I missed with 2 shots.
I found I could get the same bow hunting experience while using my .357 mag. and not have to worry about the range out to about 60 yards. The problem is I have to wait until bow season is over before I can hunt.
Another reason I have lost interest in bow hunting is that over the years the sport has become too comercialized and too high tech for me.
I have a great respect for the true primitive weapons hunters, but the new generation bow hunters and black powder hunters just don't impress me.
