Mag primers in a 44 Mag?
Hello,
Since we are on the primer subject today I figured I see what everyone else is doing. Ok is it safe to use large pistol mag primers in ALL 44 mag loads??? (Assuming that you start the load at minimum and work them up). I see the speer book says use Reg primers in most loads. I was always told Mag gun use Mag primer or you will not burn all the powder. I reload in stages and like to have all my brass Cleaned, Sized, Primed and Belled. That way when I need ammo I just fill the case, seat and crimp(the fun stuff). I dont want to start sorting my cases with reg primers and mag primers. It would be too easy to mix up.
I reload for my 300 Win magnum and Always use Mag primers. I worked up the loads and never had any problems. With the 44 mag I will be using H110 powder so I will be using a mag primer. But I might try 2400, unique, blue dot, Herco, bullseye(The books say reg primer). bascially my dad has lots of older powder laying around. He bought it trying to get a good load for his 38 special automatic. Its some weird S&W mod 51? or 52? semi auto target pistol. He is never going to use this powder and said I am more than welcome to it.
So whats everyones take on this. Either way I have both reg and mag large pistol primers. I am using these loads in a new gun(Taurus RB 44 Mag 8") so I will have to work the loads up anyway.
Thanks
Jay
