Not really!
I like the idea of being tethered at all times. The climbing line is a great idea on perminent stands. But I don't use a perminent any more. The harness system that comes with the viper is close to perfect IMO. The climbing line is about 5' long and you just slide it up the tree ahead of you.
Your harness is attached to the climbing line with a prusic (sp?) knot. Its a sweet setup.
I made a another climbing line thats about 8 feet long and tied a foot loop in the loose end. I think, if I fall, that having that loop to stand in will help me get back in my stand. I guess you could have a line that hangs all the way to the ground. But thats a lot of rope.
