In the big scheme of calibers the .223 has no recoil. I have shot a 5 pound contender in .223 and the kick was hardly noticeable. It wouldn't bother a 10 year old. Anyone could shoot a .223 all day long, the only thing that might hurt is your ears, they are loud.
