The spikes you are seeing may have been born late, during the second rut. And like you said, it may be poor genetics or nutrition as well. That small spike, maybe won't be the 170-180 class trophy that you might be looking for, but I'd say that given another 3 or 4 years he could be a nice 150. Who knows? Give the spikes another year to better develop.
