Killing more does is just what needs to happen here.
The buck kill is down and that was the goal. We need to continue to kill less of our bucks until the buck / doe ratio gets more balanced and the average age of our bucks gets a little older. AR isnt the perfect way to manage but there is no perfect way to manage a whole state with various habitats, a million hunters and over 1 1/2 million deer.
To the well intentioned guys that say we are wiping out the herd, the next couple of years will prove one side or the other right. If the "we're wiping em out" camp is right, the kill numbers will crash soon. If the numbers gradually decrease, then the group that's behind the current plan will be proven right. The good news is that if the current game plan is wrong, the reproductive capability of the whitetail deer would allow the numbers to recover very quickly. The bad news is that if the current plan is right, it's still going to take a longer time for our forests to begin recovering.
