The Colorado hunts are free range hunts they are not fenced hunts. We bow hunted this ranch last fall and are returning this next fall. This is the first year we will be leasing out the other seasons. We killed 2-4 on elk and 1-1 on deer we didnt know that the ranch had so many deer and plenty of bear or we would have gotten more tags.
Im sure that The Oregon ranch is having problems and I hope that they get it taken care of before it spreads, but I guarantee that the Animals inside the fence are much healthier than the wild animals. The ranches all have to test all thier animals every year or at least every other year ,Depends on the state. I would be willing to bet that if the states tested all thier wild animals they would have a higher percentage of infected or suspect animals than the fenced ones. Why is it that The wild deer herd in lower Michigan have not been slaughted? Or all the wild deer and elk in NW Colorado? Thier has been CWD in that herd since at least the 60'S, Long before the fenced ranches became popular. There has been A very high percentage of TB in that Mich herd for years. I only wish that all the cases got the same amount of press If a wild animal is found suspect it doesn't even get released but a private herd makes the front page of all the papers.
