Our club has 24 lanes across that see a LOT of shooting. Over the years we've tried most everything from compressed cardboard, to compressed particle board, foam, etc....
This year after doing some decent homework we switched to Pacific Bow Butts. We just installed them 4 months ago, so haven't had the time test yet. But so far I'm very impressed. Cardboard and particle board left huge messes and dust. PBB are VERY clean and you can shoot the front side one season, and then flip it over the next. The coverings tend to wear thin, but I believe that you can simply buy new coverings to slip over the bales. Be aware that the PBB's are not a totally flat surface so you may need to post your target with a square of cardboard.

The targets are fairly cheap, but when he ships is where the cost comes in due to the weight.
Just something to consider......
