RE: Hunting the adirondacks,NY,Placid,saranac lake?
Beaglefreak, I was fishing Horseshoe back in the 60's when it was still a speckle pond. ENCON poisoned it around 1973 or 74. They stocked tiger frye and it took several years for them to reach legal size. When Horseshoe was a trout pond it was illegal to icefish it. When everyone realized that it was no longer a trout pond and that the tigers were huge they started fishing the hell out of it. By the late 1980's it was all but fished out (Tigers don't reproduce). Now don't get me wrong, there are probably still a few Tigers left, but not like 10 or 15 years ago. I personally saw fish in excess of 20 pounds taken thru the ice on Horseshoe. If you were planning to give it a try don't let me discourage you. Good luck and let me know how you do.
