I have a botl action J. C. Higgins. Mine happens to be a 16 ga. but they made them in 12 as well (at least, and maybe 20 ga. too). The model #'s ranged from 583.13... to 583.23. They were actually produced by High Standard. Is this the model # (or nearly) that your gun has?
