It depends on the part of the country you are in, and that can vary by as much as 50 miles. In some areas they rut in early Nov, but in south Alabama the rut is going strong in early February. We were reloading cameras yesterday and there was tracks of bucks chasing does all over the roads.
Right you are timber, I have notice here for the last 4 years that the rut is in full swing the last week in Nov. The 4x4 I got this year had a 3" tear in its ear, along with a broken off G-3, that had just happened a day or two previously from a battle with another buck, man I sure wish I was there when they were battling.
