Hi polack,
I'm actually from PA by birth. And currently residing in Westmoreland County.....but as quickly as we can finish some other business.....we are on our way back to Alaska.
I know PA has some very large Black Bears. But the truly "big ones" are about as rare as a Pennsylvania road with no potholes

! Most of them aren't nearly so large. And even with the big blackies.....I'd still feel fine with a 200 grain CoreLokt out of the .350 Remington Magnum.
You know why there are no big black bears in Alaska don't you? Because a big black bear is a slower black bear.....and a slower black bear becomes Grizzly dinner!

All of Alaska's blackie's are quite moderate to small in size. The big bears there are the brownies. (Unless you get up around the polar region.....then they're the polar bears.)
