Default RE: Why doesn't my son want to use his new BB gun?

ORIGINAL: badshotbob

My son is 10, soon to be 11. Got him his first gun for Christmas - a Daisy Buckmasters BB gun. When he opened it, he didn't seem that excited (it's easy to tell with a kid this age). He liked it, but not that much I don't think anyway. I haven't said a thing to him since Christmas and he hasn't asked to use it yet. I'm kind of waiting. I really don't think I'm forcing it on him because he is very interested in hunting and loves his bow and asks all the time if we can shoot the bows. I had my first BB gun when I was 8 and went through billions of BBs. Shot it constantly all year round. I'm worried he hasn't taken to guns and hunting like I did when I was his age. The last thing I want to do is force anything on the boy. Am I worried for nothing? Is this a bad sign? Thanks for any input.

I hate to say this, Bob, but he may be a bowhunter! I brought my son up right, taught him everything I know about rifles, pistols & shotguns plus hunting with all of these! He became a better hunter than me, but after about ten years, lost interest in hunting with firearms! It became too easy for him! So he bought a bow, and has been using nothing but for the past 15 years or so. He is so good at calling elk, he now gets at least one every fall, and most of his shots are at 15 to 20 yards! He called a nice bull in for me in Oct., my first elk, and I shot it at about 20 yards! No further away than that! Used a 7mm Rem. Mag., though, not a bow!!

Now he's a great hunter, but I don't consider him to be a shooter, or a gun-nut, like his father! Oh well, you tries your best, but things don't always work out like you planned!!
