Been there--done that. It is alot of gun, as is the 30-378. My sense is the extra noise, cost and recoil don't justify the 150 fps over a 340 wby. The 340 has been more than enough gun on elk and deer to beyond 500 yds. Even though elk are big targets, I question the sensibility of shooting any farther under hunting conditions even though the gun is capable of it. Even a slight breeze plays havoc with any caliber at that range. Of course, there is a big difference between needs and wants--if you want one--give it a try and let us know what you think.
