Default RE: bow speed?

300 Winchester Short Magnum, 150 grain ballistic Silvertip, 3300 fps.[:-]

Oooops, wrong forum.

Mathews Legacy, 29" draw, 495 grain arrow, 52# pull, 235 fps. Thats through a chronograph and is true speed. Folks that make bows always list IBO speed that is measured with a 30" arrow @ 70#. As you can tell, I shoot a shorter arrow at a more comfortable poundage (for me). Hunting weight is 62# but I've never chronographed that set up.

Tons of things affect speed. I could get another 100 fps out of my bow by going with straight fletching and an arrow half the weight. BUT, it would be very unstable in flight and sound like a rifle going off. In this months edition of Bow & Arrow a master whitetail hunter explains that most deer are taken under 25 yards. He recommends shooting a heavy arrow at a moderate speed because it's quieter, and the heavy arrow helps with the penetration.
Just my thoughts.
