You CAN use it over Plum Brown, but, as mentioned, it works best in a humidity box...

I've used both, and found that I could get a good even finish with Plum Brown (one coat!!) if I made sure the metal was hot enough, and that the barrel was heated evenly!

Of course, the steel must be absolutely CLEAN with the Plum Brown.
