My first duck hunting season
This season was my first season ever to hunt ducks or anything else for that matter. I had never even thought about hunting until one of my buddies at work asked me to go duck hunting with him. I have a Mossberg 500 12 guage, but didn't want to go. He finally talked me into it so I went and got all my licenses and stamps etc. I was dreading getting up at 3:30am and didn't want to go at all. However, after the first day, I was hooked. We only bagged one duck, but I had a blast. I went hunting almost every single weekend this season and enjoyed every minute of it even though I've only bagged a total of three ducks this season. I bought all sorts of duck hunting stuff like decoys, shotgun chokes, camo, blind material, heaters, waders, a chair, and I haven't been neglecting my gun anymore. I bought my 12 guage when I turned 18 not having a clue what I was going to do with it. Just bought it because I could I guess. Hardly ever shot it for 5 years. Anyways, the season ends here on the 20th and I plan to squeeze in at least three more trips. My wife thinks I'm nuts since I go out all the time and sit in the freezing cold and rarely bring home a duck. My father in law thought he was missing out on all the fun so he bought a 12 guage as well and has been going with me for the past few weekends. My buddy that got me started doesn't go as often as I do. I guess I like it more than he does. I never realized how much strategy there was involved with duck hunting. I've learned that they can see REALLY good, and that they sure are fast. I've also learned that steel shot sucks and I don't want to spend all that money on that Hevi-Shot stuff. So, I just shoot the big stuff like BBB and T shot. When I get my 10 guage for next season, I'll shoot some F shot. In the off season, I plan on stocking up on duck hunting gear like a whole bunch of decoys including a couple robo ducks with the spinning wings, more camo (I just bought a really nice parka that I love. Nice and toasty), the Browning 10 guage with the shadow grass stock, a couple more calls, etc. I'm also selling my car so I can get an old pickup truck like a Chevy Silverado. I will need that to tow my duck hunting boat. So, if you want a 92 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi (My current duck hunting vehicle), I'm asking 3 grand. Is anybody else as obsessed as I am? Matt
