I don't know if the information in an email I received concerning the footage is legit but here is an explanation I got;

Friends,

In regards to the little video clip I sent you showing the helicopter
attacking some Iraqi's, here is an explanation of what happened from a
soldier stationed in Iraq. A friend sent it to him, and he e-mailed her
back with this...

The video footage that you sent me was taken here in the Tikrit area. We
were shown it the day after it happened. There was a little more to it
than what was shown in the video you sent me. I think it was classified, so
either it leaked out or was declassed, I highly doubt the latter.... But
here's the synopsis on what occurred: Three insurgents were sitting on
the side of a freeway that US convoys frequent, in the cover of night,
waiting to bury an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) that would later be command detonated and kill unsuspecting US soldiers as they drive by. Well, that AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter, was hovering over 2 KMs away (1.2 miles
observing the enemy's activity with Thermal (heat) vision. The enemy
could not hear the helicopter and had no idea that they were watching. Every
time a car/Humvee would approach, the insurgents would carry their explosives
out into that field, drop it, and run back acting as if their truck broke
down; their typical tactics. When the coast was clear, they would run back out
into the field to get the explosives. Finally, the Apache pilot/gunner
was give authorization to destroy the target. Good job to our Army aviators!
For those of you who don't know what was fired, it was an M230, 30mm
chain gun. As we could all see, it was extremely effective.
