Default RE: Scared of the dark? Be Honest

Damn I'm well into my 20's an the dark still scares the h**l out of me sometimes. But if I have a descent flashlight an my 12g I hardly notice.

I can recall being in high school an not having a ride home from friends houses well after 2-3 am. Well staying over thier houses was out of the question for me cause my mom wanted me home so I walked. 3 miles 2 3rds of wich were on populated well lit roads but that last mile was through the woods. The one thing that scared me was the human element. As a child I had the Idea beaten into my head by my grandmother that there were evil hobos in the woods just looking to kill you. This was only compounded by the fact that we had 3 cousins murdered out On long island so I always had that in mind. however I made it home with just a little adrenaline rush not much to talk about.

One night I went out very late to hang the seat for my treestand cause it was to noisy a process to do in the morning. So i went out with my little flash light an a nightvision monical. Did I forget to mention the fact that i had just seen "Blair Witch Project" in the movie thearter. So I was a little edgy Maybee a whole lot lol. I got about 100 yards in an just begain to alllow my mind to wander an entertain the thought that maybe that movie wasn't so scary. An guess what my flashlight dies At this point I begain to get those little numbing feelings in my spine an neck. I'm trying to use the nightvision to navigate being my first time using them in a real situation i'm overwelmed by the fact that i can't see more than 5 feet!
I get to the tree begin to hang the seat now i relize i'm not alone. Still having the thoughts of the unknown%% I can hear twigs snapping branches breaking an leaves rustiling in all directions. I stop listen look around an nothing ok get back to work I gotta get out of here! Finaly hang the seat an now the noise is realy getting to me my mind is racing back to the movie oh s&*& what the h$## am i doing out here?
So I begin to walk back up this very rocky slope loose footing rocks the size of bowling balls an base ballls. I Stop an listen once more trying to put the sounds to a picture an I'm baffled! That can't be a deer. Wouldnt it have spooked 20 minutes ago? But I know it's no racoon or coyote the footsteps are just way to loud. It Must be human or atleast be on 2 feet wait wtf is a person doing in the woods at this hour? An then all hell breaks loose. A crashing sound 20 yards away sends me on a dash with a burst of adrenaline I will never forget! It seared from my lower back all the way up my spine like electrcity an burried itself in the base of my brain. I ran Uphill at full speed about 120 yards triping over boulders an an falling getting up an bleeding from my hands I kept on running. From what? I didn"t want to know i just had to make it back to the truck.
At about 80 yards from the edge of the woods I began to relize that my tank was nearing empty. That was the single most scariest moment relizing that you were going to be killed maimed or god knows what. I couldnt keep my pace up an started to a slow jog my throat began to close an I couldn't breath my mouth was dry an I couldnt muster up an saliva. The adrenaline had gone but left my muscles an my head in severe pain like never before. I give up! The hell with this i'm not running. Kind of like Arnold in That movie Predator "kill me I'm here! Come on kill me" LOL an nothing not a sound.

From now on I will skip the late movie an stay out of the woods when I should be at home. But in all seriousnes we still need to stay sharp you never know who or what might be behind that tree... waiting for a shot of a life time. Oh yea an during bow season I carry 2 flashlights an my knife is always handy.
