Chukar like dry hilly country (pretty much great basin deserts) with cheatgrass and sagebrush like what you might find in Eastern WA, Eastern OR, Nevada etc. Rimrock cliffs, steep hills, draws etc are where you'll find these birds.


Pheasant and want bushy cover (shrubs, small trees, tall corn, tall wheat, tall sorgum) with food crops nearby like wheat, corn, etc. think of a corn field with sections of tall unharvested corn, edge rows, draws, etc

Valley (California) Quail live in habitat in between the cover of pheasant and chukar but you will find them in both areas. Imagine of a grassy sagebrush field between a wheat field and a big rocky slope of a western canyon. In Washington it is technically possible that you could hunt a pheasant holding field next to a steep valley wall that holds chukar and valley quail (if you find that place let me know where it is)

Forest Grouse (Ruffed, Sage and Blue) like forests. In the west you'll find them in evergreen forest mixed with stands of alder and maple. Ruffs are the most prolific and have a wide range of habbitat. Blue and spuce tend to be in mature evergreen forsest with good ground cover of berry bushes, shrubs etc.

In the east Ruffs do realy well in mixed growth hardwoods and near aspen clear cuts.

I dont know where your property is but it sounds like chukar will not thrive unless you own some desrt like property. I asume you are thinking of planting some birds that will reproduce natuarlly. Call your local Fish and Game and ask what type of game birds are in the area and make sure it is OK to plant birds that are not already there.
