RE: Just wondering...... what are some of the not so smooth moves you've ever done while deer hunting?
2002 gun season, opening morning. I'm sitting on a wooded hillside, under a big oak tree, watching the creek below me. Well, an 8-point and a few does come running up behind me. I sit still and wait for them to pass directly behind me so I can move around the tree without them seeing me. No problem ... they passed and are only about 10 yards out, so I make my move. I'm pulling up my gun and turning at the same time when my gun barrel hits this small sapling growing on the other side of the oak tree. Oops! Well, that stopped 'em all. The buck was right there, broadside, checking me out. What else am I supposed to do now but finish lining him up and take the shot, right? Hmm, easier said than done... it was a little cold that morning so I wore a new pair of gloves. They were a little thick but had that rubbery material over the fingers so I thought I'd be able to feel the trigger just fine, right? Wrong! I had the crosshairs on him but couldn't get my finger through the trigger guard ... they were too thick! No matter how many times you test these things out, it never works the way you want them too. Well, after trying for what seemed an eternity, I finally got the glove through the trigger guard. He's still just standing there! Saftey off, take the shot... and there he goes. What in the world just happened?!?! Through all this, I didn't even notice that he was standing right behind a downed tree. You could see where my bullet entered less than 1" from the top of the dead tree, changed its trajectory, and came out!
