I had a friend over one day and we were hunting up behind the house. We were squirrel hunting with our .22s and we sat down in my favorite spot. We sat for a while and got a couple squirrels. It was about noon so we decided to have lunch. We sat there pretty quiet and I'll be danged if we didn't hear some yelping!!! My friend had his slate call so we got it out and started hitting it. At first we did some hen yelps and the turkey started calling back really aggressively. I got my diaphram out and did some slower drawn out yelps(gobbler yelps) And guess what happened next. GOBBLE! About three times. He got really mad and started to strut. We watched him for a while and he finally went on his way. You might think it is stupid to call this early, but it really doesn't matter. I can't turkey hunt there anyway. But it was really amazing hearing him gobble. Have you heard any gobbles yet?
