Default RE: Help, questions for turkey hunt

I would suggest that you buy yourself a couple more friction calls, like a box call, paddle or push buttons will be fine. I would suggest practicing with a diaphram call also. I don't know of any states that make it illegal to use a blind, but double check to make sure for I am not. If you can use a blind, you will almost be certain that you will need it for drawing the bow. I set out four decoys, (feather flex, ect.) about 10 to 15 yards away. This might be overkill, but there is hardly any extra weight with the foam decoys, so why not? I also make it a point to have 1 jake decoy out of the four. Set the decoys up so that the jake is in a mating position with one hen, and the other two hens off to the side. Make sure that you face the mating jake and hen TOWARDS you. The majority of toms will approach the mating set up head on, even if it has to circle around the whole setup. This will allow you a time period to draw your bow as he approaches the two decoys. As long as the bird is in full strut, don't waste any time drawing your bow when his head is out of sight due to the tail feathers. The best blind setup is where you can draw your bow down behind the blind, and slowly raise up to shoot. Sometimes the tom will not strut in front of the decoys, and walk around the set in a "challenging" strut. This is when the tom is slowly walking around the decoys with its head and neck extended out in front of itself, and his head is cocked at an angle, watching for the slightest sign of aggression from the decoy. Don't be supprised if the tom attacks the decoys either, when these last two cenarios happen, be careful about being seen while trying to shoot. You may see some guys on the videos give out a cluck with a mouth call once they have a tom in range. This is for gun hunters only! do not attempt this while bowhunting, it is only for a shotgunner to get a clear shot of the head. You will need to shoot at either the bottom of the tail feathers(when tom is facing away) or dead on in the chest, right where the beard comes out. Let me know how it goes this spring!!! Good luck!!
