I have a few whitetails under my belt with a bow. I have missed, ofcourse, but you said the wind was blowing hard and it was through brush and at 40 yds. I feel that 40 yds is the max you should shoot under optimal conditions. Those were horrible conditions. You take the shots you feel you should but I think you should reconsider not only your equipments limtations but your own limitations too. I take it you are new to bow hunting so maybe you don't know but the percentage of getting a fatal hit on that shot is extremley low.

I find it unsetteling that you said "I took the shot, o well I was bored." Sounds like you really didn't care if you made a good hit or not you just want to see if you could hit the deer. That is not good.
