Default RE: Just wondering...... what are some of the not so smooth moves you've ever done while deer hunting?

About 4 years ago, we were out hunting a smaller parcel of land in northeast Nebraska and were about ready to perform one of our drives. I decided that it was my day to sit point, so I drove up to where I figured the drive would push the deer to. When I got to the spot, I got out and found a prime place to sit and ambush the right deer. About two minutes go by and a respectable 4x4 walks out of the tree line headed out for another shelterbelt 175 yards away. I figured that I would wait until he got a little closer.

Five minutes go by and I decided that I better hurry up and take him before the others get up there and he takes off running. Pull up the 30-30 Marlin lever-action, line up the shot, pull the hammer back and slowly pull back the trigger, CLICK! I figured that I didn't put a shell into the chamber, so I hurried up and put one on there. Much to my dismay, a shell came out. I lined up again. CLICK!!!!! "What the heck's going on?" I thought. I figured maybe it was a dead shell, I chambered one more time and lined up as he took off running. CLICK!!!!

After everyone came out, they walked up and said, "Did you see anything?" Nope I said. Didn't even get a shot off. Come to find out, when I took the gun out of the truck, I forgot to take the safety off. Eveyone, please remember this. I could save you some embarassment if anyone else is with you when it happens to you.
