Raven,

If your calls have a true slate surface (not glass, aluminum, crystal, etc.) you shouldn't be using anything but Scotch-Brite on them. You don't want to use sandpaper on slates, however the paper is fine for the other surfaces. Just don't use very coarse paper on aluminum, as it can take too much off and affect the sound.
