Default RE: Crate Training

I agree with Kevin .. if you are not familiar with training dogs do a little homework.

Since Crate Training was your title line I'll trhow this out there .. NEVER use the crate as a punishment, if started young puppies take to crates pretty well and it should be considered their "safe" area. Avoid yelling at or scolding the dog in the crate at all costs .. and go out of your way to make the crate a good place .. such as give your dog affection and/or a treat while they are in the crate .. and you don't always have to have them locked in it .. it is ok to put it in the living room with you while you are watching tv and leave the door open.

If used properly it is the quickest way to house break a young pup. After leaving the pup in the crate for period of time immediately take the dog outside to go the bathroom. Do this religously ... and you'll soon have a dog trained to go the bathroom as soon as they leave the crate ... and as the dog gets older it isn't a large leap to think of your entire house as a crate which you don't pee in.

I do agree with reading any and all material on training though.
