RE: just got my dog
willbjew,
I have been through this with my puppy. She is now 2 years old. I tried the Wolters appraoch. It did not work for my pup. Please remember, this guy was a pro and these methods were used multiple times a day. For those of us who have a limited amount of time for training, this is what I have come up with...
Read as many books as you can.
Use what works for you AND your pup only, from each training aid.
BE PATIENT.
It is my opinion that unless you are a professional trainer, keep it fun for a very long time. Like a child, a pup has a short attention span. 5 to 10 minutes 1 to 2 times a day is plenty for the first couple of weeks. Build a bond with your pup. YOU should be the one who feeds, waters, walks, etc. your pup to reinforce this bond.
Good Luck!
