RE: Early morning music
BT - I have greeted the dawn more than once with birds roosted right above me, hoping they don't crap on me. Hard to beat the calling lesson from the real thing... What I have found most exciting is to get a gob so close (usually on my backside) that you can hear him suck in his breath as he gobbles. The gobbling that close shakes the pollen off the trees onto you and is awesome. Hard to keep the composure as each note dances off your spine, lol. I did hear a fair amout of gobbling this fall while out in the woods bowhunting, I can only hope the birds will hang in there til spring...
My next favorite "sweet" spring music is the continuous deep drum from several gobs competing for the affection of a jezebel decoy, lol. I have 3 adult gobs etched in memory, each touching wing to wing, all drumming their brains out with such an intensity that they must have thought this was the last hen in the county... amazing, sounded like a dull roar. This week is the start of winter, meaning spring can't be too far away... in the meantime, we can dream and remember...
